Years ago I had a beard. The kids didn’t see me clean shaven until they were about 6 and 4. I’ve lately grown it back as I got very lazy and shaving was just too much work. But I had forgotten about the itch factor and the fact that my lovely wife didn’t want to kiss me anymore made me reconsider. I’m trying the goatee. See for yourself below. I’ve gone from clean to bear-man to… I don’t know… average look for a web cartoonist, or alternate universe evil-Joe? You decide.

If you’ve been following my posts (and why would you, really?), you might remember we were looking for a car. The 15 years old Saturn died and the 10 year old Odyssey got lonely. We settled on a 2010 Prius and picked it up Tuesday. We got the nav package and it’s almost like we got a new car and a new computer with it. Which is great since now I’ll have to save up longer for that new Mac. We’re both having geeky fun with the nav screen and bluetooth. The kids are rolling their eyes big time.
This is exactly what it looked like when we brought it home.
I guess it’s the week for getting rid of stuff. Today we say goodbye to our trusty ol’ Saturn wagon. Actually it’s not so trusty anymore. That’s why we’re getting rid of it. She’s being donated to the American Cancer Society and I hope they get something for her.
We bought it new in 1994 soon after our first child was born. We needed a bigger car and this was as big as we could afford. She’s a 94 Saturn SW1 from back when Saturn was a new “different” kind of car company instead of the defunct regular kind of car company it is now. We had a couple accidents with her over the years, the first and worst being $7,000 worth of damage (on a $14,000 car!) when she was only four months old. And Anne, our dog, and I had a nice long cross country trip in her when we moved back east. She was my commute car for many years and I’ll miss her.
We are now saving up for that new hybrid car and will be getting it soon (I hope). Unless… anybody have an extra Prius out there?
This past weekend ended up being a mini spring cleaning. We started in on Anne’s office with the plan of eventually bringing me out of the basement into the light. I also finally got these three old beige boxes out of the storage room. An old Micron (90 MHZ Pentium!), an old Dell (Windows 98!), and my old PowerMac 8500/120. Expensive monsters for their time but at the Best Buy recycling center now (minus hard drives). So long, boys.
