Well, I did it. I downloaded and installed Mountain Lion on my iMac last night and ran into a buzz saw. Installation stalled on the gray screen after the second reboot and has not budged since. Now no boot and maybe the drive is screwed up? Strange, it was working fine before.

Of course I still haven’t instituted a comprehensive backup system even after my iphoto debacle, so I might loose a lot of data. I have plenty of files backed up like all my OSS files, music, and most photos, but email and stuff like that are in danger. I’ll try booting from an external drive and attempt to save my data but ….

It’s a good thing I still have time on my AppleCare.

Oh, and yeah, this screws up my OSS return schedule as well…..

🙁

Update:

Got my iMac back.

Apple helped me out rather quickly and got me back up and running. (Thank you AppleCare!) I had to leave it at the shop overnight and they did have to reformat the drive but I was able to back up my data beforehand, so I didn’t lose anything. I did run into the little problem of my iLife 11 install disk not working on a clean ML install. Frustrating, but I found a way around it. (Apple, fix that please?)

Carbonite has been installed and my iMac is busy sending all my files to the cloud.

And yes, the return of OSS is delayed a bit. (just a little lazy).

See you soon.
