Kind of suspected something like this. Sounded kind of fishy that They would encounter these aliens for the first time and then either happen to have something lying around that would negate their powers, or manage to research their shape changing and come up with a counter agent this fast. Also notice how Smith made sure to TELL them how the things are supposed to work so they wouldn’t have to find out. When did you last hear a policeman say something like “These are handcuffs, they are designed to hold your wrists together and inhibit your movement.” or “Those are steel bars, they are there to keep you from escaping through the window.”
